Milestones
Among the events that stand out attracting attention during the course of the school's functioning is the production of class magazines and the annual The Fransalian. From 2005-06, all classes have been bringing out manuscript magazines carrying children's articles and stories, drawings and poems, and the like. From these magazines, the better articles are compiled and printed in The Fransalian which has become the mouthpiece of the school since 2005-06.
In 2003 and 2004, the school had on its staff two German youths teaching basic German to the students. Ms Isabel and Ms Betina enjoyed teaching at the school in the first year; Ms Iris Schubert succeeded them in the second year. All three returned to Germany to take up medical studies in German universities.
The school organized a charity collection for the SOS Village in Aluva for two years and collected nearly Rs 50,000/- to help support the under-privileged children living in these villages. In 2006, a similar drive was launched to help FidesIndia, a charitable organization based in Bangalore. These collections help our students to become deeply aware of the social realities around them.
In November 2005, Fr Emile Mayoraz, former Superior General of the MSFS, visited the school and shared his experiences with the student community. A similar visit by the present Superior General, Fr Agnelo Fernandez, occurred in February 2006. He exhorted the staff and students to follow the educational ideals of St Francis de Sales and to work for the well-being of fellowmen.
During 2006 and 2007, the school organized arts and science exhibitions at the school which were largely attended and appreciated by students and parents alike.
In November 2006, students of Class IX went on an educational visit to Wayanad and Mysore and spent three days there. Similarly, in November 2007, another batch visited Wayand and Ootty pm a similar mission.
In July 2007, in the wake of the chikkunguniya scare in the state, a team of doctors and medical students from Kottyam visited the school and advised the students on measures to prevent the epidemic from spreading.
The SFS Youth Festival has been a regular feature of life at the school. In 2006, it was inaugurated by well-known cine artiste Ajayakumar (undapakkru); in 2007, the chief guest was another mimicry artiste, Kottayam Nazeer. |
