The Missionaries of St Francis de Sales (MSFS) are no strangers to the apostolate of education. Right from the time the Congregation was founded in 1838 by Fr Peter Mary Mermier (1790-1862), the MSFS Fathers have taken the formation and training of the youth as their special mission; wherever they went, the Fathers established schools and technical training institutes as the fulcrum for social transformation.
The MSFS educational network now embraces all major continents, and includes over 1,200 professed members. For the first time in the Congregation's history, Fr Agnelo Fernandez, an Indian priest, directs its destiny as its Superior General, based in Rome.
The first MSFS from France arrived in Pondicherry in 1845, and their Indian successors continued their mission throughout India, establishing over a hundred schools to benefit all strata of society. The Ettumanoor School is the latest in this chain and heralds happier days for the students of this locality.
